Whether you’re looking for adventure, style or comfort, the perfect duo’s guide to mid-range modular helmets has it all so shop smart and stay safe!
Determine Your Budget.
Aside from safety, you also want to consider your budget when you’re deciding on a modular helmet. Luckily, there are plenty of great mid-range priced helmets, so you don’t have to break the bank. You could easily find a helmet with all the bells and whistles that perfectly fits both your needs and wallets! When shopping, make sure you look through a few different types of helmet models before deciding, as prices can vary greatly.
Consider Your Size & Comfort Requirements.
When shopping for a modular motorcycle helmet, it is important to remember that comfort and fit are paramount. Make sure you take the time to try on several different brands and sizes, both in-store and online. This will ensure that you select a helmet that fits you properly, so it won’t slide around while you’re riding or be too tight on your head. Also consider features like interior padding and ventilation systems that provide extra comfort when choosing a helmet.
Look for Important Safety Features.
Before you buy a modular motorcycle helmet, make sure that you consider important safety features like DOT (Department of Transportation) or ECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) certification. As an added measure of protection, seek out helmets that include a base plate, so the impact gets distributed evenly throughout the helmet in the event of an accident. You should also look for one-touch chin bars and visors that can be opened quickly with one hand mid ride, as well as scratch-resistant shields to protect against harsh elements.
Decide On Modular vs Non-Modular Headgear.
A key factor in your helmet decision is deciding whether to go modular or non-modular. Modular helmets allow riders to flip up the chin bar for better visibility or for a cooler ride without being exposed to the dangerous elements of being helmetless. Non-modular helmets, on the other hand, are fixed with the chin bar and full face coverage not able to be opened during a ride. Ultimately, it comes down to preference and style, so consider what fits you best Personally and as a pair stylishly before making your decision!
Research Durability & Quality Ratings, Then Choose & Purchase.
After you’ve done your research, understand what features and styles you desire, properly measure your head size, found the right fit for you, it is time to start considering price. You should look into the quality ratings of each helmet you are considering and determine which is best suited to ride towards safety while not breaking the bank. Then, browse through reviews and recommendations before making your final decision – only you can decide which fits your unique needs as a duo best! Finally, once both choices have been made and chosen purchase the helmets that best suit both of you too ride on toward adventure.

Nolan N100-5 Modular Helmet
I like the color of this helmet; it’s a handsome shade of black. It looks like it belongs right beside other premier helmet brands on a store shelf, especially when you consider that Nolan has designed their paint to be “earth-friendly and water-based.” Their paint has a slight texture to it, which should help me avoid costly drops and hide fingerprints. This helmet also comes equipped with all the features I insist on having in a helmet: lightweight yet solid feeling, comfortable padding and adjustable headband, visor that blocks out glare while still allowing me to see clearly, and ventilation holes throughout to keep my head cool even during long rides.
Very “Clean” Looking
The N100-5 is a sleek and stylish lid that has an understated, minimalistic appearance. Its design is clean and uncluttered, with noticeable smooth lines that run from the crown area to the sides of the helmet. I like how there aren’t many sharp edges, even in the upper visor area. Most everything is smoothed or tapered off to reduce wind shear and turbulence as much as possible for a quiet ride.
DOT Sticker
The sticker on the rear has a narrow green/white/red flag built in, which pops nicely against the dark grey paint. The DOT and size medium stickers appear to be slightly misaligned with the Nolan badging above them, but not enough for me to worry about.
How Much Does This Weigh?
The Nolan N104 weighs 3 lbs 12 oz on my scale, which is lighter than the Schuberth C4 and Shoei Neotec II, but slightly heavier than the Simpson Mod Bandit and AGV Sportmodular Carbon. It’s an impressive helmet by modular standards and lighter than probably ¾ of comparables out there. This is a priceless attribute on my list of helmet must-haves.
Spring Loaded Assistance
The chin bar has a spring-loaded feature that makes it easier to open and close. To open, just give the chin bar a nudge upwards. The spring tension will do the rest, pushing the chin bar up out of the way. The opposite action (lowering/closing the chin bar) is also helped somehow by this spring assist. I find that simply nodding downward with some enthusiasm is enough to send the chin bar careening downward fast enough to engage the locking mechanism shut.
Best Mid-Range Modular Motorcycle Helmets

Both helmets have all of the safety that riders need, with lots of style and comfort to boot! And both can be customized for each unique rider, which is an added bonus. The only difference between them is their design and how they work, but both are equally as safe.
